NY Governor Eliot Spitzer is embroiled in controversy after allegedly using extreme measures against NY Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno. Spitzer believed Bruno was abusing state resources and tried to catch him red handed. In doing so, Spitzer, not Bruno, is facing the heat.

Spitzer was an honest guy with an impeccable reputation, yet he allegedly took a dark turn to expose corruption.

Fans of The Shield have seen this before.

Detective Jon Kavanaugh knew Detective Vic Mackey was a dirty cop, but couldn’t catch Vic in the act. At the end, Kavanaugh cracked under the pressure.

Sounds a lot like Spitzer and Bruno.

Spitzer could have saved himself a lot of trouble if he watched The Shield. He would have learned that you never ride dirty to catch someone riding dirty.

It’s not too late for him, though. I figure if he’s already been labeled as engaging in extreme measures, he shouldn’t stop with following Bruno. He should make an extreme speech, in the spirit of Kavanaugh’s anti-corruption tirade, with a few references to O.J., R. Kelly, and Lindsay Lohan. You know, people who think they can buck the system. And maybe, just maybe, he can get New Yorkers to understand his passion for taking down Joe Bruno…
