Who Isn’t Beefin’ With Avril Lavigne?
![]()
Perez Hilton reports that schlockstar Avril Lavigne is being sued by a group called The Rubinoos who believe Lavigne’s 00s hit single”Girlfriend” is a ripoff of their 70s hit song “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”.
The last thing you want to do is beef with The Rubinoos. Trust me on that one.
Why don’t you play musicologist, take a listen, and decide for yourself:
“Girlfriend” can be found here.
“I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” can be found here.
UPDATE: Turns out someone else believes Avril is a dirty little infringer. According to Chantal Kreviazuk, a fellow Canadian singer and Lavigne collaborator:
“I sent her a song two years ago called Contagious, and I just saw the track listing to (The Best Damn Thing) and there’s a song called Contagious on it and my name’s not on it….What do you do with that?” (via Maple Juice)
But wait, there’s more!
Chantal added insult to injury:
“I mean, Avril, a songwriter? Avril doesn’t really sit and write songs by herself or anything.”
I wonder if she’ll testify at the Rubinoos trial?
